Boswellia is an herb that is has been used for medicinal purposes since ancient times. It comes from the sap of the Boswellia serrata tree, which grows in India. It is sold in pill form at health food stores and other stores that sell herbal supplements.

What Does Boswellia Do?

Boswellia has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties similar to medications such as Ibuprofen. It works by blocking an enzyme called 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX) that is known to cause inflammation.

How Can Boswellia Help People with Cystic Fibrosis?

Anti-inflammatory medications are often prescribed to people with cystic fibrosis to help reduce swelling and irritation in the lungs and digestive system.

Are There Any Side Effects?

Side effects of herbal supplements are difficult to track because they are not regulated in the same way as medications. Some people have reported diarrhea, nausea, or rash but there could be other side effects that have not been reported.
