Cystic fibrosis is an expensive disease to treat. For those with CF, health insurance is an absolute must-have. Unfortunately, it’s not always enough. Many CF medications cost thousands of dollars for a one month supply. Therapy vests cost upwards of $10,000. Hospital stays of more than a few days can easily add up to hundreds of thousands of dollars. Co-pays alone for these expenses can be an extreme financial hardship for many families. Some wind up wiping out their retirement savings or selling their homes just to be able to get the medicine and equipment they – or their child - need to survive. If you are one of the many people living with CF who is struggling to pay for your treatment, I want you to know that there are places for you to turn to get help.
Do you know a great way to help make CF treatment more affordable? Share your tip with other readers.
