From Lori Alma, About.com GuideJuly 1, 2009

I just finished reading this book, and I love it on so many levels. It’s the real-life account of two sisters - Pam and Heather Summerhayes - and the challenges they face growing up in the midst of Pam’s battle with cystic fibrosis. The book was written by the older sister Heather, as fulfillment of a promise she made to Pam in their final conversation – a promise to write about their life together.

There are a multitude of special moments woven into the pages of this book. One of my favorite moments was when Pam, as a young adult, was involved in a car accident. She was not seriously injured but the accident was severe enough that she could have been. This was a revelation to Pam - an “aha moment” in which she realized that none of us know when our time will come to leave this Earth and there are things out there besides CF that can end one’s life at anytime. She chose to embrace the life she had, rather than fear the life she was going to lose. That’s a powerful lesson that all of us can apply to our lives.

Besides the fact that this is a truly incredible and heart-wrenching story, there’s another great reason to pick up a copy. 5% of the proceeds from sales of the book will be split between the Canadian and US Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
