Two for One Special: A New Approach to Treating Pseudomonas

Thursday September 25, 2008

Doctors at the University of Calgary may have stumbled upon something. According to an article published this week, people who have chronic P. aeruginosa in their lungs often have other bacteria called Streptococcus milleri group (SMG) hanging out in there as well. Pseudomonas is hard to get rid of and treatment options are limited. The doctors found that treating the SMG, which is much easier to accomplish, disrupted the bacterial environment enough that the Pseudomonas also improved. Interesting!
